Construction to begin soon on new San Joaquin County Courthouse

The first notices are up in downtown Stockton - signaling the start of construction on San Joaquin County's new $272 million, 13-story courthouse, scheduled to open in mid-2016.

The new building wil replace the exisitng courthouse which is operating at maximum capacity.

The new courthouse, which will be built to LEED standards,  will feature 30 courtrooms, upgraded security features and a comfortable jury waiting room.

When completed, it wil be Stockton's tallest building.

Stockton Civic Auditorium open as cooling center

Stockton, CA - The City of Stockton has established the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium as an official cooling center to provide the community a safe and cool gathering place during the current extreme heat emergency. The Civic Auditorium, located at 525 N. Center Street, will open today at 12:30p and remain open until 8p. The Civic Auditorium cooling center will open daily from 11a – 8p, through Friday, July 5, 2013.

Members of the community, who need a cool, safe place to escape the heat, can come to the South Hall of the Civic Auditorium (enter on Fremont Street) where security will be assigned and tables, chairs and water will available.

Ramp closures planned on Highway 99 this week

Drivers travelling on Highway 99 through Stockton or Woodbridge may experience some delays due to ramp closures this week.

The Woodbridge Road offramp will be closed through Friday, June 7 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for road maintenance on northbound 99.

The Mariposa Road exit and entrance in both directions on Highway 99 in Stockton, in addition to both entrance and exit ramps for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on southbound 99, will also be closed Wednesday through Friday from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

City Annual Water System Flushing Will Occur in February and March

 

The City of Stockton Municipal Utilities Department will conduct annual flushing of the City’s water systems, February 18, 2013 through mid-March.

Water distribution systems require regular flushing to remove sand and mineral deposits that accumulate in the pipelines over time.  During the course of flushing, customers may experience slight discoloration of water if a faucet is turned on during or shortly after the pipelines are flushed.  If this occurs, customers are asked to turn on a faucet outside the house, using the faucet that is closest to the water meter, for a few minutes until the water clears.

The University of the Pacific this week was named one of the “Sustainable 16” for its “excellence in environmental academics and sustainability practices.”

Pacific and the other 15 colleges and universities now are in contention to be named “National Champion” in the second annual Environmental March Madness Tournament, sponsored by Enviance Inc., in partnership with GreenBiz Group and Qualtrics.
