A Stockton police officer shot and killed two pit bulls on Saturday after they attacked a dog.

Officers said they responded to a call by the owner of the two dogs who said they were attacking a neighbors dog, and he was unable to stop them. The owner then asked the neighbor, who had a gun, to shoot the dogs.

A shot was fired to try to scare the pit bulls away from the fight, but they it was unsuccessful.

Police said the officer fired several rounds, hitting both pit bulls. One was killed at the scene, the other was taken to a vet and euthanized.

Police are investigating the incident.
