Stockton Chamber takes "FRESH" look at wellness in the workplace

Stockton Chamber takes "FRESH" look at wellness in the workplace

The Stockton Chamber of Commerce's conference room was full for the launch of its "FRESH" (Fitness Rejuvenates Employee Sustainability & Heath) program yesterday morning. FRESH is designed to promote the establishment of wellness programs and developing a culture of health at job sites. Guest speaker Joseph Neff of Delta Health Systems, explained that when employers take a forward thinking attitude focused on employee's health, results can be lower costs as well as increased employee attendance and productivity. Neff cited one California grocery chain that introduced a health contingent incentive program to its employees and saved $6.6 million from 2009-2013 in medical claims and saw the "heart attack rate drop dramatically." Many of yesterday's attendees already had wellness programs established in their workplaces and gave testimonials to the effectiveness of these programs in terms of reducing overall costs and employee absenteeism.
