The Yellow Road

The Yellow Road

"Zaustavi".

"What?"

"Zaustavi...Now."

I heard her turn her head to look back at me.

We had been driving alongside the road for hours now, stopping only to throw the newspapers at the empty solemn houses that stood on abandoned driveways.

My fingers trembled, weary from the numerous newspapers that had been rolled and tied with sharp blue plastic bands that had cut into the surface of my skin. The bands were strewn about the dusty car and I could hear my daughter rubbing two of the grainy-textured things together.

"Stop the car I said."

"Dear, I..."

"Stop it. Now." I said more fiercely.

The dry humid air of the car was suffocating my throat and my ears were now ringing from the whizzing of air that escaped through the cracks of the dingy window.

It had seemed the car would not stop; it just kept going and going.

Classic Stuffing Recipe from "Sunset Magazine" a Family Thanksgiving Tradition

Classic Stuffing Recipe from "Sunset Magazine" a Family Thanksgiving Tradition

My sister and brother-in-law took over the responsibility of hosting Thanksgiving dinner from my mom over 20 years ago.  With the change of a generation came the change of some recipes.  Tampering with tradition can often be risky (as was the case when my sister made squash soup in place of mashed potatoes. Really?!)  There were some great successes, though.  My favorite, and the one that will endure until my sister refuses to make it any longer, is the following recipe for Sourdough Artichoke Parmesan Stuffing, which was created by Leslie Jo Parsens and originally printed in the 1994 November issue of Sunset Magazine.

Children’s Museum of Stockton’s Board of Directors invites community members to celebrate

The Children’s Museum of Stockton’s Board of Directors is inviting community members to a luncheon celebrating a successful year first year as a non-profit solely run by its board members.

New exhibits will be unveiled during the  “Discover a New Adventure, Part 2”  luncheon. The Pet Clinic where children can explore a Veterinary clinic, the extravagantly creative Art studio and the Galaxy room which houses former astronaut Jose Hernandez’ flight suit will all be open to the public for the first time.

“It’s been an exciting time for us as we keep the doors open for the children of this community. They are our future and deserve our support,” said board president, Diane Batres.
