EDD releases unemployment numbers for July

The Employment Development Department released job data today, showing an increase over the previous month for certain areas in the Central Valley region.

San Joaquin County showed unemployment at 7.7 percent in July, up from 7.3 in June, yet lower than the 8.1 percent of July 2016. Those numbers reflect the Stockton-Lodi market.

Modesto’s unemployment rate for July was 8 percent, and Merced was 9.7 percent.

In the Modesto market, the number of employed sat at 229,200, while unemployed people numbered 19,800. Merced’s employed numbered 101,800, and unemployed were 10,900. Stockton-Lodi’s employed was 294,200 and unemployed were 24,400.
