Hand In Hand

Every year there are many Asian celebrations with roots from South Stockton, each featuring a distinct culture – the Chinese New Year Parade and Festival, the Cambodian New Year Celebration, the Obon Festival, the Barrio Fiesta, Hmong New Year to name a few.

This Saturday, June 6, the cultures come together in an Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration known as Hand in Hand which is a collaboration between the Central Valley Asian American Chamber of Commerce (CVACC) and the Haggin Museum.  The event takes place at the Haggin starting at 12:30 pm.  See the schedule below:

CVACC Community Spirit Award – Anita Bautista

Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration Awards

It’s A Small World Sing-a-long and Asian Fashion Show

In addition to a full program of entertainment there will be Heritage tables, a Fa mu LAN balloon sword artist, a Mahjong demonstration, facepainting, origami, calligraphy, sewing crafts, and Chinese Herb store tours.  Pedicab rides and Food trucks (Elsa’s Paladar & The Cupcake Lady) will be available outside the museum in Victory Park.

It has been my pleasure to have attended Stockton’s Asian celebrations through the years and call many of its leaders my friends.  It is wonderful to see an event like Hand in Hand bringing the cultures together.

Anita Bautista is a true inspiration to me, always willing to share Filipino history at events, gather histories to keep them alive and impart her wealth of historic knowledge to younger generations.  I can think of no one more deserving of the Community Spirit Award. Please join me this Saturday in this unique multicultural celebration and congratulate Anita on her achievement.
