True miracle! Rescued blind dog's sight restored!
True miracle! Rescued blind dog's sight restored!

Animal Friends Connection put out a plea for help to restore Fancy’s sight and it was resoundingly answered! Fancy is a beautiful 7-year-old Cocker. She was blind in both eyes due to cataracts though we were thrilled when Dr. Olin of Village Vet evaluated that he could restore sight in BOTH eyes! He then provided a 40% discount off the normal surgery prices which included her post surgery medication and follow up for a year!

AFC still needed to raise $2,600 for our girl! An incredibly generous donor, Cybill Ballard, stepped up and offered to match ALL donations up to $1,000 for Fancy's surgery! Sierra Vet donated $200, then their clients donated an additional $285! Keep in mind this surgery was done by Village Vet! So love their support for a rescue in our community, and their support for Animal Friends! Due to their generosity and from so many others who had never met Fancy, AFC raised the full amount in under two weeks!

Surgery was performed and Fancy’s fans nervously awaited updates as to the success! We were thrilled to learn that the surgery was successful in BOTH eyes. Her sight has been completely restored, though her right eye will remain a bit blurry but she will have full sight in both!

Fancy had her second follow up appointment today with Dr. Olin and she is doing great! She's healing nicely and her eye pressure is perfect. One of her eyedrops medication will need to be continued longer term and anyone wishing to adopt her will need to agree to continue to give her the eye drops and continue along with her follow up care with the doctor. Fancy is also now off all activity restriction! Her next follow up appointment is on June 10th. All of her follow up care is paid for the next year! AFC has had her spayed, vaccinated, Frontlined as well.

She had been found dumped out by the canal last year and the senior who gave temporary shelter was no longer able to care for her and turned to Animal Friends for help finding her a new home. Fancy was taken in by AFC and placed in a wonderfully loving foster home. AFC then had a full blood panel done, took her to the groomer to get her cleaned up. Her beautiful feathers will grow back, she was really grungy and it took several baths to get her clean.

Fancy is such a sweet mellow girl who people instantly fall in love with when they meet her. She just loves to snuggle and be wherever her humans are. It takes her time with people, especially men, to trust them. She has come far with her confidence since her surgery but still is unsure at times. If she becomes afraid of something she will run back into the bedroom and sit on the bed until she feels secure again. However since we've had her she went from shaking when her foster dad came home to being the biggest daddy's girl ever!

When she first came to stay with her foster family, she was too scared to come into the kitchen but now will sit at her foster mums feet while she does the dishes. She has learned how to use a doggy door. She is a quiet girl and doesn’t bark at all, but will occasionally make a cute whimpering sound when she wants something. She gets along great with older, quieter dogs. She has and will come so far with continued love and care thanks to her awesome foster family, Karen & Sterling Cale! She is now ready for her own forever home, the sky is the limit for this precious girl!
