Comedian Grant Lyon to perform at Empire Theater

STOCKTON - Comedian Grant Lyon will perform at Empire Theater, 1825 Pacific Avenue, on Friday, Feb. 11.

A former collegiate soccer player with UC Santa Cruz, Grant decided to pursue a career on stage instead of on the field. He was a featured performer at the Asheville Comedy Festival, winner of the Colorado Mile High Comedy Competition and finished second in the Ice House Comedy Competition. Grant also appeared in the prestigious San Francisco Comedy Competition and has opened for names like Bobby Lee and Robin Williams.

Stockton Opera Association presents 'La boheme'


STOCKTON - The Stockton Opera Association presents "La boheme" on Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. in the Faye Spanos Concert hall on the University of Pacific campus.

"La boheme," Puccini's score of a beloved tale of struggling artists in Paris smitten by love, will feature Stockton Symphony's Maestro Peter Jaffe and UOP's James Heffner as producing stage director, with Magen Solomon chorus director and youth chorus director Joan Calonico.

Stockton to host 8th Annual NorCal Yoga Championship

STOCKTON - For the second year in a row, Bikram Yoga Stockton will host the Annual Northern California Regional Yoga Asana Championships at the Long Theater at in the University of the Pacific, on Saturday, Jan. 15 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Competitors from all over Northern California will perform seven yoga postures in three minutes. Winners will be chosen based on their technique, strength, flexibility and balance, and later represent Northern California at the National Championships in Los Angeles in March.

Current International Yoga Champions Brandy Winfield and Kasper van den Wjingaard, will demonstrate amazing postures at the event. Mary Jarvis, yoga studio owner and world renown coach is the guest speaker.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids ages 12 and under.

City of Stockton offices closed for holidays

STOCKTON - City offices will be closed for furlough days and holidays starting Dec. 23 through Dec. 31. Furlough days, which are unpaid days for employees, are Dec. 23 and Dec. 27.

Offices will be open for extended hours Monday through Thursday and closed every other Friday, with Dec. 31 being a closed Friday. City offices will reopen on Monday, Jan. 3 in the new year.
